Legal Agreement

Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully — they form a legal contract between you and Film Help Squad.

Last updated: 1 March 2024
Effective: 1 March 2024
Version: 4.0
The short version: use Film Help Squad to find work, hire talent, learn and grow. Be honest in your profile and listings. Don't post anything illegal, abusive, or that breaches another person's rights. Pay your subscription if you have one. Be respectful to other members. We can suspend or remove accounts that break these rules.

1. Agreement to terms

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of the website filmhelpsquad.com, our mobile applications, our AI tools and any related services (together, the "Service") provided by Film Help Squad Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12345678).

By creating an account, posting content or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 16 years old to register. Members aged 16–17 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian and may only use the Service for educational and skills-development purposes — they cannot apply for paid casting work without verified parental consent.
  • If you are signing up on behalf of a company, casting agency or production, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
  • You must not be barred from receiving services under UK law or the laws of any other applicable jurisdiction.

3. Your account

3.1 Account creation

To use most features you'll need an account. You agree to provide accurate, current and complete information during registration and to keep that information updated.

3.2 Account security

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us at [email protected] immediately if you suspect unauthorised use.

3.3 Verification

We may verify the identity of casting directors, agents and production companies before granting them access to certain features (e.g. posting paid casting calls). Verification may include checking Companies House records, Equity / Spotlight registration and government-issued ID.

4. Membership & billing

4.1 Plans

We offer free and paid membership tiers (currently Free, Pro, Studio and Production). Features and prices are listed on our pricing page and may change from time to time. Existing subscribers will be given at least 30 days' notice of any price change before it takes effect.

4.2 Billing cycle

  • Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance, depending on the plan you choose.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • You can cancel any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

4.3 Free trial

Some plans offer a 14-day free trial. We may require a payment method on file to start the trial; you will only be charged if you do not cancel before the trial ends.

5. User content

5.1 What you upload

"User Content" means anything you upload, post or transmit through the Service: profile information, headshots, showreels, scripts, casting briefs, messages, comments, and so on.

5.2 Your rights

You retain ownership of your User Content. By posting it, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting), publish and display that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the Service. The licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies retained for backup or legal purposes.

5.3 Your warranties

You warrant that you own or have the right to use any User Content you upload, that it does not infringe any third party's rights, and that it complies with these Terms.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal, fraudulent or harmful purpose.
  • Post content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit (where prohibited by us), or that promotes violence or discrimination.
  • Impersonate any person or organisation, including other members, agents or our staff.
  • Solicit money or favours from other members under false pretences. Casting fees, "audition fees" or upfront payment for roles are strictly prohibited — this is a long-standing rule across the UK industry and we enforce it.
  • Send spam, unsolicited bulk messages or chain communications.
  • Scrape, copy or harvest member data, including contact information, without explicit consent.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the Service.
  • Use bots, automated tools or AI agents to interact with the Service in ways that simulate human users (apart from accessibility tools).
  • Upload viruses, malware or any code designed to disrupt the Service.
  • Use the Service to circumvent immigration, employment or tax law.
Casting safety: if any user requests payment from you in exchange for a role, audition or "agency representation", report it immediately via the chat widget or to [email protected]. We will investigate and, where appropriate, refer the matter to the police.

7. Job & casting listings

7.1 Posting a listing

If you post a job or casting call you must:

  • Be a verified hirer or production representative.
  • Provide accurate role, pay and location information.
  • Comply with the Equity Pay Rate Card or relevant minimum where applicable.
  • Not discriminate against applicants on grounds protected by the Equality Act 2010 (race, sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, etc.). Casting on grounds of sex, age, race, disability or other protected characteristics is permitted only where it is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the role and is clearly explained.
  • Not post the same role multiple times to inflate visibility.

7.2 Applying for a listing

By applying for a listing you authorise us to share your profile with the hirer. The hirer becomes a separate data controller for your application — see our Privacy Policy for detail.

8. AI tools

Our AI tools (script breakdown, headshot enhancement, talent matching, voice cloning for ADR, mood-board generation, pitch outline generation and others) are provided "as is". You are responsible for reviewing AI output before relying on it.

8.1 Inputs

You retain rights to the scripts, photos and audio you provide as inputs. By using the AI tools you grant us a limited licence to process your inputs solely to generate the requested output and provide the service.

8.2 Voice cloning & likeness

You must only upload voice or face data that is yours, or for which you have explicit, written permission from the person whose voice or likeness it is. Misuse — including non-consensual deepfakes or voice cloning — is grounds for immediate account termination and may be a criminal offence under UK law.

8.3 Outputs

Subject to clauses 8.1 and 8.2, you may use the outputs of our AI tools commercially. We do not claim copyright in AI outputs you generate. Note that AI outputs may not always be eligible for copyright protection in their own right under current UK case law.

8.4 Training

We do not train our AI models on your private content (scripts, headshots, voice samples) unless you explicitly opt in via account settings. See our Privacy Policy.

9. Fees & refunds

9.1 Refund policy

UK consumers have a 14-day right of cancellation under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you cancel within 14 days of first subscribing and have not used any paid feature you are entitled to a full refund.

After the 14-day window, subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law or where we have made a material adverse change to your plan.

9.2 Promotional codes

Promotional codes are non-transferable, have no cash value, and may not be combined unless explicitly stated.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including the website design, logo, "Film Help Squad" trade marks, software, AI models and editorial content we create, is owned by Film Help Squad Limited or our licensors and is protected by UK and international intellectual property laws. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You may not use our marks without prior written permission.

11. Member disputes

We are an introducer platform. We are not party to contracts of engagement between members. If a dispute arises (e.g. unpaid wages, breach of contract on a shoot), you should attempt to resolve it directly. We will, where possible, provide mediation through our support team, but we do not guarantee an outcome. You may also approach Equity, BECTU, the Citizens Advice Bureau, or relevant industry bodies.

12. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

Subject to that, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in that period and (b) £100. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost business, or damage to reputation.

13. Termination

You can close your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the Service. We will give you reasonable notice unless the breach is serious (e.g. fraud, abuse, illegal content) or notice would be impractical for legal reasons.

On termination, sections 5 (your licence to us for residual content), 8 (AI), 10 (IP), 12 (Liability) and 14 (Governing law) survive.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that consumers resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland may bring proceedings in their home courts.
